It was my pleasure and privilege to call six Fire Chiefs to let them know they just won the grants they requested. It’s never easy to choose but with the experienced team at the OAFC and myself, we selected the following six recipients:
Schreiber Fire Department – $1,785 for a new rescue saw
Perth Fire Services – $6,000 for a rapid deployment craft
O’Connor Township Fire Department – $12,225 for new radio equipment
Hanover Fire Department – $6,568 for six swift & ice water rescue suits
Tyendinaga Township Fire Department – $9,600 for three AEDs
Horton Fire Department – $15,548 for PPE
Congratulations to all six departments and thank you for all you do.

We are a day late but the grants have been decided and the recipient departments will be notified by Monday, July. 13th. My thanks to the team of professionals with the OAFC who volunteered their time to review all submissions and I reviewed them as well. We agreed on six departments and I will be calling each one soon!

It’s my favorite thing to do, calling the fire departments that were selected to receive grants. Five departments were chosen for a total of $52,000 (slightly over what I had planned ?). Today was the day to call each fire chief or representative to give them the good news but I was only able to reach three of the five winners. The remaining two were not around so I will try again tomorrow and then on Monday, in case everybody went fishing!
To learn more about the three winners so far, just go to the home page or click here.
All grant recipients are invited to send any photos from their department as well as photos of the items purchased through the grants. Please send your photos to: photos@jennysheroescanada.com

Six new grants were announced today to volunteer fire departments from all over Ontario. The first grants last year were a test run and now we are on a roll and it won’t be long before the next application period will be starting. I called each department myself and loved sharing the news that new equipment would soon be on the way. Pictured above is the team of volunteers from the Township of East Zorra-Tavistock, recipients today of a $5,000 grant.
These grants covered everything from thermal imaging cameras to gas detectors to radio equipment, all things that will keep the volunteers safe and help them better serve their communities. For more on each community and to see their stories, just go to the home page or click here.
There’s lot more detail on these grants on the O.A.F.C. website. Click here.
